Paris, Milan, New York, Scottsdale!

For years upscale clothiers, jewelers and other high end business would have stores in New York, Paris and Milan and advertise as such.  Scottsdale has also been home to many exclusive retailers for years.  And for years Scottsdale Fashion Square and Biltmore Fashion Mall have been the centers of exclusivity.

For some time now it has been know that Barneys New York was planning to open a store in Scottsdale. It is now official with the announcement that a 65,000 store will open in 2009 where the Robinson's May store was.  The R-M store is to be razed and a new 2 story wing will be built to house the Barneys and up to 30 more stores.

Bottega Veneta also announced a store to be located at Scottsdale Fashion Square.  If your tastes run to purchasing handbags that costs thousands of dollars, then this is the store for you.   These additions heat up the high end competition.  As report earlier in this blog, CityNorth in North Scottsdale/Phoenix has hinted that Neimans and Bloomingdales will join Nordstroms to start the battle for the high end client.  Westcor obviously wants to see Scottsdale Fashion Square remain as the top destination.

You may ask what this has to do with residential real estate.  This is good for all of us as, even if you don't shop in these stores, the economic effects help our area.  As more tourist visit, of all economic strata, they see what a wonderful place this is to live and often decide to stay!
