Hunting for Treasure

This past summer there was a TV show on called "Treasure Hunters".  It focused on teams getting clues that would eventually lead them to a treasure worth over $1 mil.  They had to decipher the clues to determine answers that would lead to the next clue.

Real Estate is a lot like that.  Our starting point may be a phone call or email from a potential client.  We ask all kinds of questions to get the best possible clues to make it easier to decipher them.  Our ultimate goal - the treasure - is finding the right home for that client.  Along the way, we receive many clues.  More often than not, the clues can lead in many directions, possibly leading away from the treasure.

Often times, the treasure hunting team (us- the agents, and the clients) isn’t able to agree on what those clues mean.  That’s where great communicating skills come in, especially on the agent’s part.  You see, as a team, communication is key.  We have to rely on getting the right answers from our partners.  In most cases the team functions beautifully.  In some cases, however, part of the team may just not be sure about what they really want the treasure to be.

So, although we may have started on the journey, we are always double checking the clues to make sure we get the end of the journey. When we started, we were looking for a 3 bedroom, 2 bath with a two car garage.  (this is just by way of example).  We made it to the next clue – no town homes, only single family detached.  OK, we’re on our way.  We want to be on the east side of town.  OK, getting closer.  But I really want to be near my sister.  – Where does she live?  The west side.  Hmm, the clues seem to be leading somewhere different than we first thought.

I could go on, but let’s tie this up a bit.  Many people are put off by all the questions that a real estate agent might ask.  Keep in mind that if you trust your agent to find you a home, then you should feel comfortable enough about answering these questions.  After all, the goal is to find you the home that is right for you.  Not what the agent thinks is right.  By asking these questions, the agent is trying to get to know you better, and get a sense of how to best help you.  Real estate agents have to be detectives, mind readers, scouts, and much more just to find the right property.  Add to that all of the other responsibilities involved in making a transaction go as smoothly as possible.

So, if you think your real estate agent is asking too many questions, consider what you would do, if you had to help someone else look for their treasure

If you are considering purchasing a new home in the Phoenix Metro area, please let us be on your Treasure Hunting team.  We will ask questions to decipher the clues, and listen to ensure we make the journey successful.
