Prop 105 and 106

Hi,

There are a record number of propositions on the ballot this year in Arizona.  They cover a wide variety of issues.  Propositions 105 and 106 are competing ballot measures concerning the State land Trust, conservation and how it is handled.  I am not providing arguments for or against either, but I am providing this for educational purposes so that the voters can make an informed decision. If you would like to view the entire proposition 105, it's arguments for and against and a brief legislative analysis, click here for the Secretary of States official documentation.  Click here for the entire proposition etc of 106.

The State Land Trust oversees management of all State Land. It's mission statement is as follows, "To manage State Trust lands and resources to enhance value and optimize economic return for the Trust beneficiaries, consistent with sound stewardship, conservation, and business management principles supporting socioeconomic goals for citizens here today and generations to come. To manage and provide support for resource conservation programs for the well-being of the public and the State's natural environment"

I was going to write about many of the aspects of each prop, but it is too easy to get bogged down in the politics.  There is never a perfect solution.  The proponents of each are quick to tell you what is wrong with the other.  106 definitely protects more, but there will be additional bureaucracy to do so. Proponents of 105 say that 106 goes too far, but does 106 go far enough?

I have provided the links above to the official information.  No spin from the proponents of either side.  There are arguments filed with the Secretarty of State, but read the props themselves, and determine what is best for our state, it's beauty and the state trust beneficiaries.
