AZ pop. double by 2030

Interesting information coming out of the W.P. Carey School of Business at ASU.  This info was gleaned form the Bank One Arizona Blue Chip Economic forecast put out by L. William Seidman Research Institute in the school.

The US Census Bureau has new projections that indicate greater numbers of people moving to Arizona in the coming years.  Considering  birth rate and in- migration, the states population is estimated to approach 11 million by 2030.

"By 2030, Arizona will become solidly established as the 10th largest state, bigger in population than Michigan and closing ground on Ohio," according to Lee McPheters, topics editor for the Arizona Blue Chip outlook.

Arizonas population is estimated to increase by 5.6 million between 2000 and 2030 according to the analysis. Due to the aging of the current population and migration of newcomers, the number of 65 and older will increase by 1.7  million, an increase of 2.5 times the current number.

If achieved, this growth rate will place Arizona as the second fastest growing state in the nation and second largest in the west after California.
