This is a vacation purchase, is there anything I should know about pools?

I often get questions about pools.  The simplest answer is that if this is a vacation home to be used only occasionally, or a rental property, I advise against it.  It is your property, so the final say is yours.  Keep in mind that if you have your own pool in your back yard, it will need to be maintained...year round.  This will add to the regular maintenance costs of the home.  If you want a pool, you might want to consider a community with a pool.  This is practically automatic if you are considering a condo.   It won't be as convenient as your own back yard, but it's a trade off for the maintenance factor.

If you are purchasing a rental property, keep in mind that should any accident happen regarding the pool, it is your liability.  Even if it is pure negligence on the behalf of the tenant, you can be sure you'll be sued.  If you are willing to assume that liability, make sure you have sufficient insurance to cover accidents( that includes drowning!)
