P F Chang's Rock & Roll Marathon

Yesterday I mentioned that January isn't all about the auto auctions. That is so true. This weekend is the PF Chang's Rock and Roll Marathon. While the actual event is on Sunday, 1/15, there are other events surrounding the actual race that start a couple days before. Sunday, race day actually features a marathon and half marathon. What sets the Rock and Roll Marathon apart from other marathons is all the other actibvities. Every mile along the course has a different musical act providing entertainment for the crowd and encouragement for the runners. The headline act at the finish line this year is the B-52's! I'm tempted to get me some Rock Lobster!
On Saturday, kids can get a sense of what marathon running is about. Kids Rock Arizona is a 1 mile run for K-6 grade kids. Every child is a winner and will be rewarded with an official race number, T-shirt, goodie bag, and colorful medal – just for finishing!
Of course there is entertainment surrounding the entire event to be found all over Tempe, Scottsdale and Phoenix. For more info, check out the official R&R marathon web site. The race winds through parts of Scottsdale, Tempe and Phoenix. The marathon stars at CityScape in downtown Phoenix and ends in Tempe, while the 1/2 marathon starts and ends in Tempe with a stretch through Scottdsale. It doesn't matter if you run, there's lots to enjoy.
