New NW Phoenix Shopping

Ground breaking will occur mid month on a new and needed shopping center in North West Phoenix.  Located NE of I-17 and Happy Valley Road, the center, called the Shops at Norterra  will be located adjacent to the large campus of USAA.  Plans call for a 14-screen Harkins Theatre, two 10,000-square-foot retail anchors, specialty shops and several restaurants. The center will have approximately 350,000 sq. ft. of space complimenting Vestar's Happy Valley Towne Center, which has about 675,000 square feet of commercial space, including Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble and Lowe's.  Having lived in this area a few years ago, before there was any kind of shopping alternatives, I can say that this will be very welcome by most residents.  It will also provide the closest location for movies to the vast number of homeowners in Tramanto and Anthem. With the quickly growing population in that area, and the continuously growing USAA campus, this center is sure to be busy from day1.   Now, if ADOT could only figure out a better solution than the roundabouts.
