Nothing to do this weekend? DONATE

December 28th, 2006
Hello!

Now that the bulk of the holiday season has passed, most of us likely have a little more free time.  If you are looking to do something this weekend, why not do something that is good for you AND for others?  Oh, and it's FREE!  What is this magic activity?  OK, the first part isn't THAT fun, but the end result is, and it will make you feel good.  I'm talking about cleaning out your house - unused clothing, bedding, appliances, furniture, etc.  Did you get a new toaster this season?  Old one still works?  DONATE IT!  Have clothes you haven't worn in seasons?  DONATE THEM!  It won't take that

Bowl Time in the Phoenix metro area!

December 27th, 2006
HI,

It's Bowl time in the Valley of the Sun, and no city has more going on for football bowl games than the Phoenix metro area.  The Phoenix metro area is host to three bowl games over the next couple of weeks.  First comes the Insight Bowl featuring Texas Tech and Minnesota, to be played this Friday at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe.  Next is the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, now being played in the NEW University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, featuring Oklahoma and Boise State.  That game will be on New Year's Day.  Last but definitely not least is the BCS National Championship Game to be played at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale

Good Friday to all!

Not surprising to anyone who makes Phoenix their home, Arizona is now the fastest-growing state in the US!  We officially surpassed Nevada last year, but the US Census just released their findings.

Phoenix and the Valley of the Sun - A Great Place to Live Pt.2

December 20th, 2006
This is the second in a series of blogs about the Phoenix Metro area.  The previous blog, "Intro to the Valley of the Sun", provided a sketch of things to come.  Today we will cover History and Famous People.

The Hohokam Indians settled in the Salt River Valley around 300 BCE in an area that now includes Phoenix and Scottsdale.  Not a lot is known about this tribe, including why they vanished around 1400 CE.  It is thought to be due to prolonged drought.  The Hohokam were excellent engineers, constructing irrigation canals to support their life.  Much of the existing canal network utilized by the Salt River Project

LET IT SNOW!

December 19th, 2006
Hello!

With our current cold front (highs for the valley expected to be in the 50's - BRRRRR!), northern Arizona is getting snowed on!  This is great news for the winter sports nuts, as well as the many businesses that depend on snow for their income - ski resorts, hotels, restaurants, etc.

Sunrise, in Greer, Arizona, is open now - click HERE for their website!  It is in the White Mountains.

Snowbowl, just 2 hours away by car in Flagstaff, is receiving 8-10" of snow, and will open soon - click HERE for their site!

That's just another reason Phoenix is such a great place to live - if you like snow, it's a short car-ride

State OKs speeding up freeway projects

December 16th, 2006
Hello!

For your sanity's sake, we hope you are nowhere near a mall today!

Great article on www.azcentral.com, regarding starting freeway projects ahead of schedule - read the whole article HERE, but here's the condensed version:

Maricopa County's total of $193 million includes accrued interest, according to ADOT, and will be divided among these projects: • Adding a third lane in both directions to Interstate 10 from Verrado Way to Sarival Road in the far West Valley, accelerated to a 2009 start date from 2023. • Adding a third lane in both directions to Interstate 17 from Carefree Highway to Anthem Way, moved to a 2009 start from 2023. •
